Investing with Purpose in Youth Education for Long-Term Growth

Missouri

This is what investing in young people’s futures looks like in practice.

For students from under-resourced St. Louis communities, the path to economic opportunity often starts with access, and Show Me The World Project is building that access deliberately. Through student-led entrepreneurship, workforce readiness training, financial literacy, and real-world learning experiences, the organization reached over 100 high school students in the past year alone. With support from Serving Our Communities Foundation, Show Me The World Project secured its first dedicated office and production space, a milestone that strengthened operational capacity and positioned the organization for sustained, long-term growth. This is what investing in young people’s futures looks like in practice.

Economic mobility is built, skill by skill, experience by experience, through programs that take young people seriously and give them tools the world will actually reward. Show Me The World Project was founded on that conviction, and it has shaped every aspect of how the organization serves students in St. Louis.

Show Me The World Project’s mission is to provide youth from under-resourced communities equitable access to transformative educational experiences, both at home and abroad. The program is built around four pillars: STEM learning, entrepreneurship, global competency and travel, and leadership development. Together, these pillars form a curriculum designed not just to prepare students for the next grade level, but for careers, for college, and for a world that extends well beyond their immediate neighborhoods.

The entrepreneurship component is among the program’s most distinctive features. Students learn to operate a real business through the Show Me The World Coffee enterprise, a student-led coffee and tea operation that builds financial literacy, communication skills, and professional confidence through actual commerce. The business is not a simulation. Students manage product fulfillment, participate in community sales events, and gain paid work-based learning experience that most of their peers will not encounter until years later, if at all.

Serving Our Communities Foundation’s support has strengthened the infrastructure behind that programming in a concrete and lasting way. With funding from Serving Our Communities, Show Me The World Project secured its first dedicated office and production space, creating a centralized hub for student training, product fulfillment, and staff coordination. That space represents stability; the kind of operational foundation that allows a growing organization to deliver programming consistently, recruit and retain staff, and plan for the future with confidence.

In the past year, Show Me The World Project reached more than 100 high school students from under-resourced communities, partnering with St. Louis Public Schools and partner schools, the Regional Business Council, and the Kaufmann Foundation, among others. The organization has also expanded its reach to Kansas City Public Schools, extending its model beyond St. Louis and demonstrating that what works here can work elsewhere.

Serving Our Communities Foundation’s investment in Show Me The World Project is an investment in what economic mobility actually requires: access, skills, real work, and the infrastructure to deliver at scale.

“The best funders don’t just invest in programs, they invest in people and possibilities. Serving Our Communities has done both. Their support, strategic insight, and genuine commitment to our mission have helped Show Me The World Project grow our impact today while building toward an even stronger future.”
